37 Weeks! Update, Feelings, and Plans...

Holy crap I did it! I made it to 37 weeks! You know what that means right? We are officially home birth safe! I can deliver this little girl in the comfort of my home now instead of going to the hospital again. I have so many emotions running through my head. I am excited and nervous and ready to meet her. I feel like this just got real all of a sudden. Everything is so different this time around. The first time I had an anterior placenta so I didn't get to feel Kai moving around in my belly. This time with Bri I feel everything. Every movement she makes, hiccups and practice breaths, I also felt her drop the other day. Not just woke up and noticed it one morning but actually felt it. Now my dream of having a home birth is here and I am absolutely over the moon about it. Now we play the waiting game. I wonder when sister child is going to decide to come...

I had my check up on Friday and she is measuring 7 weeks ahead (my fundal height is 44). Matt had an appointment that he couldn't get out of so I took Kai with me, along with my dula - who helped keep him wrangled for me. The biggest shock I got with him while at my appointment was that he got very possessive and upset when my midwife tried to touch my belly to check on the baby. Little man was having none of that. He got mad and yelled at her (pointed his finger at her and told her “NO”) and then launched himself at my belly to cover it from her touching it. All three of us were very surprised at his reaction. Due to this reaction hubby and I both decided that when I do go into labor (depending on if it is day or night) we will have him go to a friend’s house and play for the day or until little sister makes her arrival.

I am secretly hoping I have her sometime during the night and he sleeps through it all. If not thankfully I have a few friends that will come get him. As much as I don’t want him to go I know that I will need him to if I am going to focus on bringing sister into this world and not worry about him being upset or clingy and wanting me.

My midwife dropped off the birthing tub last night. Matt cleaned and sterilized it and then put plastic under it so that all we have to do is flip it over and fill it up when I go into labor.

How far along? 37 weeks

Total weight gain: 259lbs this week, grand total of 26lbs so far.

Maternity clothes? Yes, unless I am in yoga pants. Also most maternity tops do not fit me (I have a long torso). So I have been wearing tunic style tanks in XL from Vanity to cover my long and huge pregnant belly.

Stretch marks? Nothing new.

Sleep: Good – Sort of. I wake up every 2-3 hours or less to pee, so there is that.

Best moment of the week: Hitting 37 weeks and knowing that I am going to have the homebirth I dreamt about.

Miss anything? Just general things like bending and breathing and moving haha.

Number of times I get up to pee at night:  3-5 (sometimes WAY more if you count before midnight.)

Movement: Lots. Different this week from the last two weeks, I didn’t really feel her moving except a few times. Now I feel her moving more like she has throughout the whole pregnancy. Hoping that means she switched back from posterior to where she should be.

Food Cravings: Nothing really, I have made myself eat more so this week than I have really wanted to. Nothing sounds appetizing to me right now.

Anything making you queasy or sick: Nope, nothing at all.

Gender prediction: We are having a girl.

Labor signs: I have been feeling some pressure down there and actually having some intense Braxton Hicks (although those are few and very far between when they do happen). Hoping that means she is engaging and I am getting ready to meet her.

Symptoms: Braxton hicks, and this week there has been tons of cervix pressure off and on but nothing consistent.

Belly button in or out? Out

Wedding rings on or off? On

Happy or moody most of the time? A little of everything. My moods are all over the place.

Looking forward to: Meeting her! I have officially been pregnant longer now than the first time. I am glad she is staying put but I would be lying if I said that I wasn’t a little disappointed that I have not gone into labor yet.

Hippy Dippy

Here recently a friend (thank you Tia!) introduced me to doTERRA essential oils. My sinuses have been swollen since I was about 14 weeks pregnant this time around. It has made breathing a nightmare. So much so that at night I snore so badly my husband has taken to sleeping on the couch just so he can get some rest before going to work the next day. Since starting the Sinus Bomb aka the Beginners Trio I have noticed that I am not relying on saline solution as much anymore. Unfortunately (for me anyway) my sinuses have gone from just being swollen to releasing the backlog of mucus and bloody noses I was spared up until starting the oils.

Has that discouraged me from using the oils? Not at all! I can breath again! Now all I have to do is get all the backed up crud out of my sinuses so I can just breathe on my own. On top of the the sinus blend I have been using a nice little oil called "balance" and lets just say that this pregnant lady no longer wants to go "hulk smash" on people and animals around her. Her being me of course. Apparently this time I am an angry pregnant lady vs the emotion pregnant lady I was with my previous pregnancy.

Also did I mention that I bought my first ever Amber Necklace for myself? Why did I not realize that there were adult Amber Necklaces when I got Kai his Amber Teething Necklace! Thanks Buckwheat Bottoms for helping realize this when I saw your display at your shop! I am totally loving it!

Ps. I was not asked to do a review on doTERRA or Buckwheat Bottoms at all. I was just really impressed with the oils I have been using and loving my Amber Necklace so much that I wanted to share it all with you! They are the reason this Barefooted Mama has been feeling very hippy dippy as of late.

At This Point...

At this point in my pregnancy with Kai my water had broke and I started my 24 hour labor journey into motherhood.  This morning I woke up wondering if Bri would want to make her debut at this time too. So far she seems to be very content in my belly poking her little butt out to the right of my belly button.

If she is content in there then so am I. I am not ready to have her yet and hopefully she senses that. 36 weeks and 4 days is too soon for me. Provided the next 3 days go smoothly and Monday rolls around I will be home birth safe. I will be able to birth in the comfort of my own home surround by those I love along with my midwife and dula.

After my hospital experience with the horrible on calldoctor I had with Kai I am looking forward to a peaceful home birth experience. Don’t get me wrong, no matter what happens the important thing is that she comes safely and is a healthy baby. I learned from experience with Kai that not everything goes as planned. I have learned to be flexible with whatever the plan is for her arrival. I know that even though I may want that peaceful home birth that something can still happen that I may end up in the hospital. The only thing I know I can control from that point on is the doctor who delivers her.

And that will NOT be the same doctor who delivered Kai. I refuse to be disrespected again because my original plan was a home birth. With that being said my birthing plan is basically this:

  • To have a peaceful home birth.
  • Minimal checks.
  • As hands off as my midwife and I feel comfortable with.
  • Delayed cord clamping (after the placenta is delivered).
  • Immediate skin to skin.

That’s it. That’s what I would really like to see happen, the rest is in the goddesses hands as to how she decides to come into this world.

Hello Blog! Big Updates with lots of Pictures!

Whew! The last few months have seriously been nonstop GO, GO, GO! Figuring out how to switch my domain name from Google to GoDaddy turned into a huge mess. Again I apologize to anyone who was trying to access my blog and was redirected to the porn site. Once I figured out what happened it only took about 5 hours to fix the error and get my blog back. Hopefully I never have to go through that again.

On a more positive note: Kaileb is growing and learning right on track. He is in the 95th percentile for his height, 75thfor weight and 99th percentile for head circumference.  He is constantly amazing me with how smart he is. He babbles all the time and is starting to actually make sense. He shows you what he wants, although he does get frustrated with mommy when she can’t figure it out. He is very animated and always on the move.

at his 18 month check up

This last week of pregnancy has been really hard on him. I am on pelvic rest and have been told to take it easy, so we have not been getting out of the house much. In fact mommy has not been able to get off the couch much due to swollen feet, a strained muscle in my tummy, and being beyond tired because I have reached that point in pregnancy where you don’t really sleep at all anymore. So our days have been filled with him bringing me toys to play with, lots of Bo on the Go and The Lorax to keep us occupied.

36 weeks!

Speaking of my pregnancy with baby girl, everything seems to be going just fine. I am 36 weeks plus 4 days along now. She is in the posterior position at the moment, but I have been working with my chiropractor to get her to switch back around. She is head down but still high. She hasn’t engaged into my pelvis yet (which makes me hopeful that she will stay put for a while longer). I just got my test results back from having my Group B Strep test done and I am happy to say that it was negative this time around! Here is a comparison of my 36 week belly with Kaileb vs Briona - what a difference it is:

With all that going on I still managed to find time to have my baby shower, Thanksgiving, Christmas, and my Birthday Blessing way with some amazing family and friends. I’ll leave you with some pictures from the holidays:
