23 Week Bump Update

How far along: 23 weeks

How big is baby:  about 11 inches long and weighs just over a pound (about as much as a large mango)

Maternity clothes: Oh yes, anywhere from yoga pants to maternity tops and jeans. Although I do still find some of my longer tank tops still somewhat fit over my pregnant belly.

Stretch marks: Definitely getting them. Even though I have been slathering on the stretch mark cream and oils, I still seem to be getting them no matter what.

Sleep: Finally starting to get better. I am still up pretty late at night but when I do fall asleep I usually sleep for 8-10 hrs (not solidly because I have to get up and pee 4-5 times between then). I do have to say that this is much more enjoyable than sleeping 2hrs and being up for 6-8hrs before sleeping for another 2 hrs. Glad that seems to be over (knock on wood).

Best moment this week: Kaileb went through a growth spurt so he was not moving as much. I was seriously starting to get worried. I told myself and him that if he didn’t move I was going to call my midwife and have her put the Doppler on him. About an hour later my little wiggle butt was doing some sort of dance, almost as if to say, “I’m still here mommy, don’t get the Doppler!”

Belly button in or out: It is still in, but I have noticed that it is starting to come out. I have a really deep belly button (I refer to it as the hole in my stomach) so this will be the first time I have ever seen what it looks like on the outside if it does decide to pop out.

Cravings: This week I seem to want water, milk, and orange juice like it is going out of style. I am glad to report that my hash browns, eggs smother in Tabasco sauce seems to have disappeared finally.

What I miss: Same as always, being able to sleep comfortably on my tummy and being able to have a glass of wine every now and again. Oh and friends wanting to hang out with me besides calling me up because they need a DD.

What am I looking forward to: 5 more weeks left and then I am officially in my third trimester! Can’t wait!

Milestones:  Blood vessels in his lungs are developing to prepare for breathing, and the sounds that his increasingly keen ears pick up are preparing him for entry into the outside world. Loud noises that become familiar now — such as the dog barking or the roar of the vacuum cleaner — probably won't faze him when he hears them outside the womb.
